Program summary
The Information Technology Career Focus program introduces learners from equity-seeking groups in our community to skills training and career opportunities in the Information Technology sector. The program consists of three badges in the areas of Personal and Professional Development, Communicating in the Digital Era and Information Technology Career Exploration.
In-class instruction is supplemented with presentations, guest speakers and hands-on training in introductory programming and computer networking. Students also participate in a one-week job shadow with an employer in the Information Technology sector. Our pilot projects are open to members of equity-seeking groups, with priority given to persons with disabilities (August to December offering) and women entering or returning to the workforce (January to April offering) who are considering post-secondary training in Information Technology.
Upon successful completion of the three badges, students will receive a Micro-credential in Information Technology Career Focus.
Admission requirements
- High School
Provincial High School Graduation Certificate with a 60% average in nine level 3000 credits or equivalent
Comprehensive Arts and Science (CAS) Transition
Comprehensive Arts and Science Transition Certificate
- Adult Basic Education (ABE)
Adult Basic Education (Level III) Graduation with General College Profile (or Business-Related College Profile or Degree and Technical Profile) with an average pass mark of 60%
- Mature Student Requirements
Applicants who do not meet the education prerequisites for this program, are 19 years at the time of application and out of school for at least one year may be considered on an individual basis under the Mature Student Requirements; for more information regarding the Mature Student Requirements please refer to Procedure AC-102-PR Admission.
Program length
This 16-week program consists of 25 hours per week of in-class participation (5 hours per day) including one week of on-site job shadow.
